1987
Jeep Wrangler is launched. This car combines the open cabin, reliability and fine off-road capabilities, characteristic for CJ-7, with magnificent ride and comfort for which Cherokee became famous. American Motors Corporation (AMC) is bought by Chrysler corporation. The new owner continues the trend of creating cars which combine ability to move on off-road terrain with excellent handling, safety, speed and comfort at the level of the American quality standards. The beginning of a new era in the history of jeeps.
1990
Millionth Jeep Cherokee leaves the conveyor. During seven years this vehicle has proved its superiority over the cars-competitors of its class.
1991
Serial production of Jeep Renegade started – modernized model of the 70th. Production of Grand Wagoneer and Comanche is cancelled.
1992 - 1993
Jeep Grand Cherokee is presented at the Detroit motor show (North American International Auto Show). The new off-road vehicle which surpasses all existing standards for the cars for outdoor activities is also exhibited on a glass podium of the European Exhibition Center in Cobo. Serial production of Grand Cherokee is started in Graz, Austria.
1996 - 1997
New Jeep Wrangler is presented – the “icon” of the Jeep brand.
1998 Merge of Daimler Benz and Chrysler corporations. The new concern is named DaimlerChrysler.
1998 - 1999
Grand Cherokee model once again takes the standards of SUV to a new level, reaching new heights in style and luxury. High level of technological decisions, such as the switching of the two- and four-wheel drive models, once again makes Grand Cherokee the market leader in the segment of compact SUVs.
2001
The new Jeep Cherokee (Liberty) model is launched. This car shows legendary ability to move on any off-road terrain, including the conditions of the well-known Rubicon Trail route. New Cherokee is intended not only for traditional admirers of jeeps, it is also focused on the new generation of adherents of SUVs who demand from the off-road cars greater comfort when moving on good roads. The design of new Cherokee allows defining at once that it is a jeep. Its excellent dynamic characteristics on asphalt are combined with effective use of space of the interior compartment, versatility and various new equipment.
2004
Jeep Cherokee (Liberty) is restyled and gets new variants of powertrain, including engine 2.8 VGT CRD.
2005
Jeep Grand Cherokee of the third generation is launched. The novelty differs by its sports appearance, improved smoothness of ride and handling on paved roads, as well as outstanding off-road abilities supported with a number of new functions. Besides the popular 4.7-liter V8 engine, absolutely new modern engine 3.0 CRD (3.0-liter V6 turbodiesel of with common fuel rail), and, for the first time in the history of Jeep cars, the 5.7-liter HEMI V8 engine with MDS system which shuts down a part of cylinders are offered to the buyers of Jeep Grand Cherokee.
