Compass 4x4

The Freedom Drive I™ 4x4 system features an electronically controlled coupling that is attached to the rear differential. It monitors wheel slippage and actively transfers torque to the axle that can best use it. During high-traction driving (highway driving), this system transfers virtually no torque to the rear axle, but instantly transfers it to the rear wheels when conditions call for it. It automatically sends the optimum amount of torque to the rear axle when the front wheels slip. The 4WD LOCK feature can be engaged and the system electronically “locked" front and rear for added low speed control up to 35 mph.
